STOPPING THE SPREAD, SURPPORTING THE INFECTED AND AFFECTED

Text Box: Training of Care Givers Building the capacity of Districts HIV/AIDS committees on Care and Support further strengthens the activities of TEAM by giving it a comprehensive approach.  This supplements the first Training of Trainers programme on awareness creation.  The committees members knowledge of practical arts of caring is broadened.  Areas of needs for the infected and affected are clearly identified.  The church is now given a focus on appropriate action to be taken. The Care and Support trainings are focused on the 74 District Church Councils of ECWA.  The trainings are presently running in districts where Training of Trainers workshops have already been done.  These Districts have formed committees on HIV/AIDS.  This holistic approach enables the sustainability of the programme. The trainings build the capacity of the church community to respond to the need of the infected and affected.  The support system created within the church and its community is one that will be able to accommodate the infected and affected without feeling of molestation, stigma and discrimination.  The resources to facilitate the process are more sustainable when drawn from the community than outside the community. The church is being looked upon by TEAM to become a carrying agency.  This is the church preaching the through action in order to edify the body of Christ.
